Why not plan a little trip on the water with a personal watercraft this summer!<\/p>\n<p>In the last articles, you discovered 2 of 3 regions to visit on you watercraft this summer:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/chicksandmachines.com\/en\/boats-en\/roadtrip-on-the-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Saint Lawrence River<\/a> and \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicksandmachines.com\/en\/boats-en\/destination-ottawa-river\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Ottawa River<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>We will present you with our last destination for the summer: The Taurus Reservoir![\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%93%8DThe_Taurus_Reservoir_and_its_Matawin_dam\"><\/span>\ud83d\udccdThe Taurus Reservoir and its Matawin dam<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%8C%9B_Length_2_days\"><\/span>\u231b Length: 2 days<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%92%AA_Experience_level_Starter\"><\/span>\ud83d\udcaa Experience level: Starter<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>Located in the Haute-Matawinie region, in the municipality of Saint-Michel-des-Saints, the Taurus Reservoir is the <strong>ultimate destination for boats, and for your personal watercraft of course<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <strong>Taurus Reservoir<\/strong>, as its name suggests,<strong> is not a lake, but a reservoir<\/strong> that includes the <strong>Matawin dam<\/strong>, which is a big <strong>dam owned by Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As it contributes to manage the rise in the water level, the Taurus Reservoir is partly emptied during fall and winter, to then collect flood waters in spring. All of this means that its water level varies from season to season, and sometimes, even from month to month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>At the beginning of the summer season,<strong> learn more about the water level of the reservoir<\/strong>. Sometimes, the level is not high enough to launch boats. The municipality of Saint-Michel-des-Saints often publishes <strong>Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s statements<\/strong> for this purpose. <a href=\"https:\/\/smds.quebec\/environnement\/hydro-quebec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">You can read them here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For that matter, you can reach the Matawin dam by personal watercraft. It is a nice area that is less busy, since it is located at one end of the reservoir.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;23518&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Your_itinerary\"><\/span>Your itinerary<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Many had the opportunity to enjoy the fine sandy beaches, the many islands, and rivers as well as the Taurus Reservoir\u2019s vast expanse of water (270 kilometers of banks and 95 square kilometers of surface area). <strong>So, one day will definitely not be enough for you to explore this body of water!<\/strong> I suggest you plan a whole weekend to make the most of it.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Consider bringing a <strong>map<\/strong> of the reservoir with you. It could be very useful, not only to help you find your way, but also to explore new places. Don\u2019t forget that around half of this lake\u2019s surface area does not have cellular network.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Launching\"><\/span>Launching<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The easiest is to launch your personal watercraft on one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/smds.quebec\/loisirs-et-culture\/tourisme-et-la-region\/rampes-de-mise-a-leau-lac-taureau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public launching ramps in the municipality of Saint-Michel-des-Saints<\/a>. Once you pay for your parking sticker, you\u2019ll be able to access the launching ramp and to park your vehicle and your trailer.<\/p>\n<p>You will find a few marinas equipped with a gas station around the Taurus Reservoir where you\u2019ll be able to fill your personal watercraft\u2019s gas tank. I suggest the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.info-marina.ca\/fr\/explore\/lacs-et-rivieres-43\/plans-deau-interieurs-52\/marina-le-nautique-iv-inc-201\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Nautique-IV\/Port St-Michel marina<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.info-marina.ca\/fr\/explore\/lacs-et-rivieres-43\/plans-deau-interieurs-52\/marina-pointe-fine-432\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pointe-Fine marina<\/a>. Depending on your itinerary and the places you choose to visit on the reservoir, you\u2019ll be able to bring some extra gas with you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;23519&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"On_your_way\"><\/span>On your way<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This reservoir is known for some famous places, like \u201cPointe-Fine,\u201d the \u201cVillage Island,\u201d the \u201cBay of the Middle,\u201d the \u201cBay of the Bottle\u201d, the \u201cCadran Solaire\u201d, the \u201cChute \u00e0 M\u00e9nard\u201d and some other bays and campsites.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dare_to_explore_less_well-known_places\"><\/span>Dare to explore less well-known places<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In my humble opinion, this reservoir has even more to offer with a personal watercraft when you head towards <strong>less well-known and more remote places<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can find many small rivers and desert beaches that look like tropical ones. However, you need to be more vigilant if you choose to explore these places, since not all of them are marked. Thus, you need to respect the markers that are present on the majority of it.<\/p>\n<p>Given its size and the traffic of the boats that travel along it, the Taurus Reservoir can become rough midday on its main junctions.<\/p>\n<p>You will then have the opportunity to discover less busy places, or the ones further from the popular places, where there will be less waves!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_ultimate_personal_watercraft_experience\"><\/span>The ultimate personal watercraft experience<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you want to live the most beautiful experience, take your personal watercraft out <strong>when the sun starts to set<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll then sail on \u201cmirror\u201d water for as far as the eye can see and admire the beautiful colors of the sunset. The experience is completely magical!<\/p>\n<p>And if you\u2019re like me, you\u2019ll quickly realize that it\u2019s also the best time to drive full blast (just a little)!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;23513&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mooring_good_food_and_bedtime\"><\/span>Mooring, good food and bedtime<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When it comes to food, I advise you to bring what you need to eat for lunch on one of the many fine sandy islands of the reservoir. You\u2019ll enjoy the experience!<\/p>\n<p>If you want to spend the night there, you\u2019ll have the possibility to find accommodation in the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lactaureau.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Auberge du Lac Taureau,<\/a> but you can also book a space in one of the many campsites around the lake.<\/p>\n<p>One of my favorites is the <a href=\"https:\/\/lanaudiere.ca\/en\/accommodation-lanaudiere\/parc-regional-du-lac-taureau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lac Taureau Regional Park campsite<\/a> (Bay of the Middle area), for its location and the organization of the site. This campsite also includes other areas (Bay of Splitter and Baie du Poste).<\/p>\n<p>Know that you\u2019ll also be able to rent one of many private cabins around the reservoir, or close to it, which can include an access to a private launching ramp.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"GET_READY_FOR_YOUR_PERSONAL_WATERCRAFT_HIKE\"><\/span>GET READY FOR YOUR PERSONAL WATERCRAFT HIKE!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Now that you have a few destination ideas, get ready for your personal watercraft road trip. Keep in mind that you\u2019ll spend many hours on the water, sat on your personal watercraft and that the temperature can change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Extra_clothes\"><\/span>Extra clothes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Bring <strong>extra clothes<\/strong> with you (windbreaker jacket, a warmer shirt, a neoprene suit, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>neoprene suit<\/strong> (one or two pieces) becomes interesting here, not to protect you from the cold water, but because it gives you more comfort when you\u2019re sat on your personal watercraft: indeed, it effectively protects you from the wind and gives you additional warmth when the air is colder.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Multifunction_neck_warmer_sunglasses_and_sunscreen\"><\/span>Multifunction neck warmer, sunglasses and sunscreen<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You\u2019ll feel the wind on your skin for a long time. As for me, I like to use a <strong>small multifunction neck warmer<\/strong> to protect my neck or my ears, as a headband.<\/p>\n<p>Also consider having a pair of<strong> sunglasses<\/strong> with large lenses, even if the sun is not out. It will protect you from the wind and will maybe even spare you a big mosquito in the eye!<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget your <strong>sunscreen<\/strong>! It is unexpected how much the sun rays are amplified on the water, even during cloudy days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quick tip here<\/strong>: don\u2019t forget to put sunscreen on the top of your feet! It can seem strange, but you\u2019ll understand, and you\u2019ll thank me if you drive barefoot.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Gas_tools_and_essentials\"><\/span>Gas, tools, and essentials<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For the rest, bring with you <strong>extra gas<\/strong>, some <strong>useful tools<\/strong>, and all <strong>safety equipment pertaining to the sailing<\/strong>, <strong>a lot of water<\/strong>, <strong>food<\/strong>, some <strong>communication equipment<\/strong> that works with no cellular network (if you plan not to have network), your <strong>boating licence<\/strong> and a <strong>first-aid kit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Plan_your_itinerary_and_learn_more_about_it_before_leaving\"><\/span>Plan your itinerary and learn more about it before leaving<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Finally, beforehand, check and learn more about each place you plan to launch your craft at, moor or fill your gas tank and\/or get food during your water hike.<\/p>\n<p>The conditions, prices and opening\/closing hours vary from season to season, and sometimes even during the season. It will spare you many concerns.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"IN_CONCLUSION\"><\/span>IN CONCLUSION<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A personal watercraft road trip is possible! You just have to be prepared, like you would for a motorbike or a snowmobile trip.<\/p>\n<p>You now have a couple of dream destinations for your first few trips this summer.
