York State<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>When I create a motorcycle itinerary, I typically opt for <strong>one of two approaches<\/strong>, depending on the purpose of my trip.<\/p>\n<p>When <strong>adventure calls<\/strong> and I want to experience as much scenery as possible, I develop what I call a &#8220;<strong>linear&#8221; itinerary<\/strong>: it&#8217;s a single, long loop with home as the starting and ending point. Each evening, the accommodation is in a different place.<\/p>\n<p>I like this approach because it allows me to cover more regions and satisfy my thirst for a change of scenery.<\/p>\n<p>When there&#8217;s a<strong> specific region I want to enjoy<\/strong> over several days, on the other hand, I opt instead for an approach I call a <strong>&#8220;flower&#8221; itinerary<\/strong> (cute, right?).<\/p>\n<p>I create daily itineraries that form little loops (or petals) around a single accommodation point. I find this approach more relaxing, as you don&#8217;t have to unpack and re-pack every day. What&#8217;s more, the flower itinerary allows you to take your time and really get to know a region.<\/p>\n<p>On several occasions, I&#8217;ve discovered sublime places during a linear escapade, and returned to them later in petal itinerary mode, to spend more time there.<\/p>\n<p><strong> New York State &#8211; and more specifically, the Adirondacks &#8211; is one of those places.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, I present a 4-day itinerary \u2013 a flower-style itinerary \u2013 with Montreal as the point of departure and return.<\/p>\n<p>Conceived after long hours spent reading various blogs, travel articles, and discussion forums, I can confidently say that my itinerary brings together<strong> the <i>best of the best<\/i> of roads that New York State has to offer. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So if you&#8217;re looking for a breathtaking yet relaxing itinerary for your next long weekend, look no further; here it is![\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33907&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_1_Malone_Tupper_Lake_Long_Lake\"><\/span><b>Day 1: Malone, Tupper Lake, Long Lake<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>Total: 307 kilometers<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/TjQogiSsSdjXtZCW9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/TjQogiSsSdjXtZCW9<\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p>And we\u2019re off!<\/p>\n<p>On the first day, we head South through the Chateaugay-Herdman border crossing. <strong>The great advantage of this small crossing is that it\u2019s not very busy, so passage is fast and almost guaranteed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as you cross the border, you quickly forget the poor quality of our Quebec roads and immediately begin savouring the smooth, satisfying pavement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The first stop is in Malone:<\/strong> a quaint, quiet little town close to the border (about 20 minutes). It&#8217;s a good idea to fill up here, since we&#8217;ll soon be in the mountains, with fewer gas stations available.<\/p>\n<p>That said, Malone is worthy of much more than just a quick stop for gas; you&#8217;ll find an array of charming old buildings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>I found the church, train station, and library particularly memorable. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you feel like it, I recommend taking some extra time to wander around, be it on your motorcycle or on foot.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we take the <strong>NY-30S, a magnificent, winding road through a sublime region<\/strong> dotted with peaceful lakes.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33903&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]For accommodation, I booked 3 nights at the <span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/northcreeklodge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Creek Lodge at Gore Mountain<\/a><\/u><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><em>This small, modest but friendly motel is centrally located and ideal for exploring the region&#8217;s superb roads.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The staff are warm and welcoming, and you quickly feel part of the family. The motel&#8217;s restaurant is a popular gathering point in the area, and the food is good.<\/p>\n<p>After dropping off the luggage at the motel, a quick beer at the end of the day is well deserved, so it&#8217;s back on the bike and off to <span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/lemontreebrewery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lemon Tree Brewery<\/a><\/u><\/span>, a mere 30 minutes away.<\/p>\n<p>While you\u2019re there, why not stop off at the local market to buy a few beers and cigars to enjoy by the fire back at the motel?[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33913&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_2_Mountains_Galore\"><\/span><b>Day 2: Mountains Galore <\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>Total: 442 kilometers<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/zdDsKnW79Ui9C8qD7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/zdDsKnW79Ui9C8qD7<\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For today&#8217;s ride, we&#8217;re heading Northwest on a counter-clockwise loop that climbs North to Lake Placid, then Southwest to Otter Lake and back East to the motel via Higgins Bay and Speculaor.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33919&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The road to Lake Placid is absolutely breathtaking.<\/p>\n<p>At times, the road follows a creek at the foot of towering mountains, and although you&#8217;re at the foot of the mountains, you feel as if you&#8217;re on top of the world.<\/p>\n<p>With a departure around 9 a.m., you\u2019ll arrive in Lake Placid in time for a stroll and a good lunch. I recommend the <span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smokesignalsq.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smoke Signals<\/a><\/u><\/span> restaurant, which has a beautiful terrace right on the lake and offers the best chicken wings I&#8217;ve ever had.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33905&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On the way there, my eyes were drawn to a motorcycle with a road bike cleverly attached to it; I&#8217;d never seen anything like it! I simply had to talk to the bike&#8217;s owner to get him to tell me his story.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33925&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33860&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Let me introduce Rob, a passionate and friendly motorcyclist who had just embarked on a thrilling adventure from Virginia to Nova Scotia. Home to countless small boutiques, activities of all kinds and friendly restaurants, Lake George is a tourist attraction in the region, and there really is something there for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Take this opportunity to do some discount shopping at <span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/theoutletsatlakegeorge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Outlets at Lake George<\/a><\/u><\/span>!<\/p>\n<p>For a sure shot for dinner, stop off at <span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegarrisonlakegeorge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Garrison<\/a><\/u><\/span> before heading back to the motel. A relaxed atmosphere and a delicious menu await you. Bonus points for the coatroom entrance, where you can<strong> store your motorcycle gear during your stay.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33915&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_4_Return_to_Montreal\"><\/span><b>Day 4: Return to Montreal<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>Total: 483 kilometers<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Day four of this itinerary is a sight to behold; in my opinion, it&#8217;s the best day of all. Unfortunately, one of the roads is closed for the rest of summer 2024, so Google Maps is blocking that option for now. Instead of sharing a single link, then, I&#8217;m detailing the steps here:[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33850&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Motel \u2013 Lake George \u2013 Ticonderoga \u2013 North Hudson via la 9N<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #467886;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/uqPBYZp5boDvwwfw9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/uqPBYZp5boDvwwfw9<\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here, you&#8217;ll be blown away by the famous Route 9N along Lake George. I didn&#8217;t want it to end![\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33911&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">2. <strong>North Hudson \u2013 Port Henry via la Ensign Pond Road<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ensign Pond Road is the section of road that is unfortunately currently inaccessible, so you&#8217;ll have to wait until the work is completed before enjoying this road, which I think is one of the best on this itinerary.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s definitely worth the wait![\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33854&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">3. <strong>Port Henry \u2013 State Route 9 via Tracy Road<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tracy Road is yet another pleasant, winding road, with no perpendicular roads to distract us from the beauty of the landscape.<\/p>\n<p>At the exit, you can either hop on 87 north to the border, or continue a little further to join State Route 9 to Plattsburgh if you prefer to stay on quieter roads.<\/p>\n<p>I recommend the latter, as it&#8217;s much more pleasant that way.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;33856&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">4. <strong>Back to Montreal<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On the way back, I recommend a quick stop in Plattsburg for a roadside meal before heading home.<\/p>\n<p>I always go to Panera Bread; it\u2019s a favourite of mine.
