It hurts my heart every time I have to put my bike away\u2014usually as late as possible in November. I count the days until spring, tear in my eye, with my tub of ice cream and motorcycle movies in hand.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"394\" data-end=\"567\">I\u2019ve often been told to try snowmobiling, that I\u2019d love it just as much. Well, thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/tourismenouveaubrunswick.ca\/hiver-motoneige\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tourism New Brunswick<\/a>, I had the privilege of swapping my ice cream for real snow!<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;38908&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Snow_What_Snow\"><\/span><b><strong data-start=\"569\" data-end=\"593\">The Snow? What Snow?<\/strong><br data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"596\" \/><\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This winter, there wasn\u2019t much snow. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/fr\/environnement-changement-climatique.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environment and Climate Change Canada<\/a>, <b>snowfall was between 30 and 50% below the 30-year average<\/b><a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: 'PT Serif', serif;\" href=\"#sdfootnote1sym\" name=\"sdfootnote1anc\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: 'PT Serif', serif;\">! <\/span>With warmer-than-usual temperatures and even rain melting the snow in many areas, several snowmobile clubs and centers feared their seasons would be significantly shortened.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"921\" data-end=\"1267\">However, despite this winter, there\u2019s still plenty of snow on the trails in New Brunswick! I\u2019d even say that on the morning of our departure for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greyrockcasino.com\/quality-hotel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quality Hotel<\/a> \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greyrockcasino.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grey Rock Casino<\/a>, 20 to 30 cm were falling! For context, I\u2019ve never liked winter. I don\u2019t like the cold. I even wonder why I agreed to this trip. Oh boy\u2026 My snowmobile initiation was going to be quite the experience! Would it pull me out of my annual hibernation?[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;75px&#8221;][vc_column_text]Just three hours from Quebec City, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greyrockcasino.com\/fr\/valley-view-restaurant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Valley View restaurant<\/a> in the hotel: succulent ribs, maple salmon, burgers, or vegetarian dishes\u2026 there\u2019s something for everyone, even the pickiest (right, Max \ud83d\ude09)![\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;38902&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1838\" data-end=\"2128\">Then, encouraged by Maxime\u2019s mischievous nudge, Josiane and I went to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greyrockcasino.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">casino<\/a>\u2014our first experience for both of us. What a beautiful, vibrant atmosphere! Life can be unfair though; she won more than I lost. I still had the satisfaction of checking \u201cplay at a casino\u201d off my bucket list.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2130\" data-end=\"2275\">Then, in a flash of genius, someone whispered that we could take photos under the illuminated tunnel. Are you game? Me, yes. You? Ok, let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;38906&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;38916&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2332\" data-end=\"2529\">That evening, I learned how to start and stop a snowmobile, where the controls are (brake, throttle\u2026), how to steer, move forward, and reverse. Very relevant information for a first-timer, right?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2531\" data-end=\"2812\">After this little photo session, hearing the sound of the machine, feeling the tiny acceleration (we were still in the parking lot, so we stayed safe), and loading the snowmobile myself into the trailer\u2014that\u2019s when I really started to understand and get excited for the next day.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2814\" data-end=\"3085\">When I get too excited, I have trouble sleeping. Since I was really eager, I stayed up very late. The weekend of daylight saving time, combined with the one-hour difference in New Brunswick, meant getting up at 6 a.m.\u2014that\u2019s 4 a.m. on my internal clock\u2014was a challenge.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3087\" data-end=\"3271\">Fortunately, this challenge was quickly forgotten. At <a href=\"https:\/\/moose-valley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moose Valley Sporting Lodge<\/a>, we couldn\u2019t have been better welcomed\u2014even by our best friends!<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/youtube.com\/shorts\/-m&#8211;E5V89v0&#8243;][vc_column_text]Honestly, I\u2019ve rarely seen such a warm, friendly, even festive welcome. Yes, festive. You can feel it when people are happy to be there. I can confirm: at this place, people love their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>I was charmed by the entire team, without exception. Even the guests are welcoming. You feel at home and already part of the gang! The snowmobiling community was a delightful surprise for me. I highly recommend it and can\u2019t wait to go back.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;38914&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3708\" data-end=\"3916\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"And_Were_Off\"><\/span><strong data-start=\"3708\" data-end=\"3725\">And We\u2019re Off<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3708\" data-end=\"3916\">I finished my training by learning the hand signals snowmobilers use when passing each other and the safety rules. After all, this is where the longest snowmobile season happens! On day one of my initiation, we went to the border between Quebec and New Brunswick.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;38922&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]I learned how to take turns on a snowmobile, and we were moving at a very interesting speed. On the trails, it was beautiful. Fresh snow was falling on the trees, the view of the mountains, charming little bridges, the sun was shining, and we even spotted a pair of\u2026 well, let\u2019s say nature enthusiasts! Lovers of the great outdoors would be satisfied![\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32864&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32862&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32860&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32852&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32858&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4486\" data-end=\"4687\">What I loved most was the acceleration. You can feel the engine power overcoming the track\u2019s resistance on the snow. The sensation of acceleration is different but just as satisfying as a motorcycle!<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4689\" data-end=\"5311\">For the turns, I\u2019m gradually getting used to it: a snowmobile doesn\u2019t handle as precisely as my bike. It also took me several hours to stop my left hand from wanting to press the \u201cclutch\u201d to downshift (the clutch lever on a motorcycle corresponds to the brake lever on a snowmobile).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4689\" data-end=\"5311\">Some points are still similar: look where you want to go and lean your body in the direction of the turn. However, the shape, weight, and size of the machine require a completely different approach. I don\u2019t think two days are enough to fully master all the nuances. <em data-start=\"5239\" data-end=\"5309\">(Read between the lines: go for more than two days\u2014it\u2019s really fun!)<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5313\" data-end=\"5420\">The temperature was perfect: me, a notoriously cold person, didn\u2019t even need to turn on my heated jacket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-start=\"5422\" data-end=\"5782\"><strong>Special mention to the people who groom the trails at night. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5422\" data-end=\"5782\">Thanks to these dedicated individuals, we can enjoy exceptional trail conditions!
