When I&#8217;m riding, that&#8217;s what I want to focus on. Not on that little voice in the back of my head whispering, <em>&#8220;Was that noise there before?&#8221;<\/em> or <em>&#8220;Is my rear tire about to give up on me in the middle of the highway?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">To enjoy the ride, I need to feel completely in control of my bike and have peace of mind. The quality of the parts on my motorcycle has never been something I&#8217;ve been willing to compromise on. That&#8217;s why I choose to ride on Shinko tires. Yeah&#8230; that was me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">We were on what we call the <em>Ch\u00e2teau des DAQs<\/em>, the annual trip organized by my riding club, the <em>Durs \u00c0 Queers<\/em>. Every year, we ride nonstop from Montreal to Charlevoix, and one of our members had decided to put a little too much faith in his tires.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><em>&#8220;They&#8217;ll make it there. I&#8217;ll replace them when I get home.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Huge mistake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">When your tires aren&#8217;t top quality\u2014or they&#8217;re simply at the end of their life\u2014they wear out fast. Especially when you&#8217;re putting close to 800 kilometres on your bike over a single weekend, loaded down like you&#8217;re about to cross the continent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">We were spending two nights there, and on Saturday the plan was to head out as a group, catch the ferry, and explore the area. Obviously, that&#8217;s not what happened. Otherwise, this story would be a whole lot less entertaining.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">After spending at least thirty minutes getting fifteen motorcycles down an insanely steep, curved gravel driveway\u2014the final boss of motorcycle parking lots\u2014I noticed my friend&#8217;s tires were completely shot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><em>&#8220;Sorry, buddy. You&#8217;re not going anywhere today. Actually&#8230; you&#8217;re probably not making the ride home either. Honestly, I don&#8217;t even think I&#8217;d trust those tires to get you to the grocery store.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">So instead of exploring the beautiful Charlevoix region that day, I spent hours waiting for roadside assistance under the blazing sun, listening to motorcycles ride by while I sat between a hot tub and a gazebo like a forgotten piece of Canadian Tire patio d\u00e9cor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">If I had to choose between an unforgettable ride and waiting around for a tow truck, I think the answer is pretty obvious.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since that adventure, I&#8217;ve made a point of replacing my tires before they&#8217;re overdue. I want to know that I can ride as much as I want\u2014with zero stress.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;40412&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/motovan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Motovan<\/a>, I had the chance to get a brand-new set of Shinko tires, and the timing couldn&#8217;t have been better. With all the trips I have planned this year, I was due for a new set anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Now, for very personal reasons, I always ride on white walls. What can I say? My childhood hero was Lightning McQueen. More specifically, that scene in <em>Cars<\/em> when he rolls into Radiator Springs and gets fitted with white wall tires. That was my <strong>tire awakening<\/strong>. Unfortunately for me, that happens more often than I&#8217;d like. But this time was different\u2014I knew it was waiting for me with brand-new tires. Which meant they were still perfectly white. Still ridiculously photogenic. Which also meant I had about 48 hours before Quebec roads turned them into a questionable shade of beige.<\/p>\n<p>The moment I walked into the shop, the look of the bike stopped me in my tracks. I honestly don&#8217;t think I&#8217;d ever seen it look this good. The white walls immediately catch your eye. They give the bike a clean, classic, almost timeless look.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Of course, before heading out on a real ride, I had to break the tires in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Whenever I mount a new set, I like to put about 100 kilometres on them in a comfortable environment to scrub off the release compound and let them wear in properly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">So I headed just outside Montreal, sticking to quieter roads and doing my best to avoid potholes. With brand-new tires, the last thing you want is to end up in a situation where you have to make a sudden maneuver.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">But honestly? Nothing could ruin my mood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">I had <strong>brand-new white walls.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I felt like my bike had just rolled out of the pages of a magazine.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;40396&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Once the break-in was done, it was finally time for the real test.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">My parents are currently building a cabin in the Laurentians, so I figured I&#8217;d go check out the construction site&#8230; and casually show off my new tires to the neighbour, who&#8217;s very clearly a motorcycle guy. I mean, he has three Harley trailers parked in his driveway. That&#8217;s either a sign of true passion or a sign that he owns way too many motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Maybe both.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">I rode all the way to Val-des-Lacs because, really, what&#8217;s a better tire test than a three-hour round trip?<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">And of course, I avoided the main roads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">I wanted a real test.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Twisty roads. Less-than-perfect pavement. Routes I&#8217;d never ridden before. Exactly the kind of ride where you quickly find out whether you trust your bike&#8230; or start saying little prayers inside your helmet.<\/p>\n<p>But the entire ride, I felt planted. In control. I was able to stop thinking about my bike and simply enjoy the moment.<\/p>\n<p>Because at the end of the day, that&#8217;s the real luxury of riding\u2014not having to think about your equipment. Being able to focus entirely on what&#8217;s around you.
