Testing Shinko Tires: When Confidence Makes All the Difference
The open road, the smells, the sound of my bike. When I’m riding, that’s what I want to focus on. Not on that little voice in the back of my head whispering, “Was that noise there before?” or “Is my rear tire about to give up on me in the middle of the highway?”
To enjoy the ride, I need to feel completely in control of my bike and have peace of mind. The quality of the parts on my motorcycle has never been something I’ve been willing to compromise on. That’s why I choose to ride on Shinko tires. They’re tires I know, tires I trust, tires that give me the grip I need while adding a seriously clean look to my bike.
Your tires are literally the only thing between you and the pavement. If you’re not riding on good tires, you can’t ride with confidence.

And trust me, I know from experience. Ever been stranded in the middle of absolutely nowhere because your tires were hanging on by a thread? Yeah… that was me.
We were on what we call the Château des DAQs, the annual trip organized by my riding club, the Durs À Queers. Every year, we ride nonstop from Montreal to Charlevoix, and one of our members had decided to put a little too much faith in his tires.
“They’ll make it there. I’ll replace them when I get home.”
Huge mistake.
When your tires aren’t top quality—or they’re simply at the end of their life—they wear out fast. Especially when you’re putting close to 800 kilometres on your bike over a single weekend, loaded down like you’re about to cross the continent.
We were spending two nights there, and on Saturday the plan was to head out as a group, catch the ferry, and explore the area. Obviously, that’s not what happened. Otherwise, this story would be a whole lot less entertaining.
After spending at least thirty minutes getting fifteen motorcycles down an insanely steep, curved gravel driveway—the final boss of motorcycle parking lots—I noticed my friend’s tires were completely shot.
“Sorry, buddy. You’re not going anywhere today. Actually… you’re probably not making the ride home either. Honestly, I don’t even think I’d trust those tires to get you to the grocery store.”
So instead of exploring the beautiful Charlevoix region that day, I spent hours waiting for roadside assistance under the blazing sun, listening to motorcycles ride by while I sat between a hot tub and a gazebo like a forgotten piece of Canadian Tire patio décor.
If I had to choose between an unforgettable ride and waiting around for a tow truck, I think the answer is pretty obvious.
Ever since that adventure, I’ve made a point of replacing my tires before they’re overdue. I want to know that I can ride as much as I want—with zero stress.

Thanks to Motovan, I had the chance to get a brand-new set of Shinko tires, and the timing couldn’t have been better. With all the trips I have planned this year, I was due for a new set anyway.
Now, for very personal reasons, I always ride on white walls. What can I say? My childhood hero was Lightning McQueen. More specifically, that scene in Cars when he rolls into Radiator Springs and gets fitted with white wall tires. That was my tire awakening. Ever since then, I’ve been obsessed.

So you can imagine how excited I was when I saw Motovan’s selection.
I had my new tires installed at Idle Garage, and I literally did a little happy dance when they called to tell me my bike was ready.
To be fair, I usually react like that whenever my bike comes back from the shop. Unfortunately for me, that happens more often than I’d like. But this time was different—I knew it was waiting for me with brand-new tires. Which meant they were still perfectly white. Still ridiculously photogenic. Which also meant I had about 48 hours before Quebec roads turned them into a questionable shade of beige.
The moment I walked into the shop, the look of the bike stopped me in my tracks. I honestly don’t think I’d ever seen it look this good. The white walls immediately catch your eye. They give the bike a clean, classic, almost timeless look.
Of course, before heading out on a real ride, I had to break the tires in.
Whenever I mount a new set, I like to put about 100 kilometres on them in a comfortable environment to scrub off the release compound and let them wear in properly.
So I headed just outside Montreal, sticking to quieter roads and doing my best to avoid potholes. With brand-new tires, the last thing you want is to end up in a situation where you have to make a sudden maneuver.
But honestly? Nothing could ruin my mood.
I had brand-new white walls.
I felt like my bike had just rolled out of the pages of a magazine.

Once the break-in was done, it was finally time for the real test.
My parents are currently building a cabin in the Laurentians, so I figured I’d go check out the construction site… and casually show off my new tires to the neighbour, who’s very clearly a motorcycle guy. I mean, he has three Harley trailers parked in his driveway. That’s either a sign of true passion or a sign that he owns way too many motorcycles.
Maybe both.
I rode all the way to Val-des-Lacs because, really, what’s a better tire test than a three-hour round trip?
And of course, I avoided the main roads.
I wanted a real test.
Twisty roads. Less-than-perfect pavement. Routes I’d never ridden before. Exactly the kind of ride where you quickly find out whether you trust your bike… or start saying little prayers inside your helmet.
But the entire ride, I felt planted. In control. I was able to stop thinking about my bike and simply enjoy the moment.
Because at the end of the day, that’s the real luxury of riding—not having to think about your equipment. Being able to focus entirely on what’s around you. The smell of fuel, the wind, the sound of the engine, and that incredible feeling of freedom.

Peace of mind signed Shinko
Every time I ride, I’m reminded of how much trusting your machine changes the entire experience.
When you know your bike is ready for the road, when you know your tires will respond exactly the way you expect them to, and you can lean into every corner without second-guessing yourself, you get to truly enjoy the ride. The stress disappears, and you’re able to experience motorcycling the way it was meant to be.
To me, that’s exactly what Shinko tires represent: peace of mind, style, and confidence—all in one package.
And honestly, if my white walls also make me feel like the motorcycle version of Lightning McQueen… I’d say that’s a pretty perfect match.
