La Tuque: an enchanting destination for motorcycle enthusiasts

Nestled in the heart of the majestic Mauricie region, La Tuque is much more than just a stop on the road: it’s an experience to be fully embraced, especially for motorcycle enthusiasts like Cathy Lam and me, contributors to Chicks and Machines.

This region offers a clever mix of magnificent panoramas, warm welcomes, and varied activities that will delight adventurous spirits.

Bordered by the Saint-Maurice and Bostonnais rivers, this region is full of treasures to discover along the way. The winding roads, breathtaking landscapes, and rich local heritage make it a must-see destination for bikers seeking a change of scenery.

An unforgettable scenic route: Route 155

The journey begins with Route 155, a true gem for motorcyclists. On one side, rock faces worthy of the most beautiful movie scenes, on the other, the Saint-Maurice River unfolds in all its splendor.

It is one of the most important tributaries of the St. Lawrence River, crossing a vast area of ​​over 42,000 km².
Throughout this route, natural and cultural stops await you.

Whether you’re drawn to the history, the local flora, or the fauna, this stretch of road becomes much more than a simple journey: it transforms into a sensory and visual immersion.

Le Petit Manoir Gîte: Charm, Comfort, and Hospitality

Our first stop was at Le Petit Manoir Gîte, located in Grandes-Piles. This magnificent house, tastefully decorated and adorned with works of art, can accommodate up to 14 people in spacious, uniquely designed rooms.

Each room has a private bathroom, and some even offer breathtaking views of the Saint-Maurice.
A large terrace offers panoramic views, while an outdoor kitchenette—equipped with a BBQ, refrigerator, and utensils—is available for preparing meals.

In the morning, a hearty breakfast is served: homemade pancakes, yogurt, fresh muffins, orange juice, and coffee.

The attentive and warm hosts welcome you with extraordinary hospitality.

As a bonus: kayaks, bicycles, and fishing rods are available free of charge. The place strikes the perfect balance between luxury, nature, and a personalized welcome. With the municipal dock just across the street, you can admire the sunrises and sunsets or even put your rod in the water!

Grandes-Piles: A Picturesque Village to Discover

Grandes-Piles is a charming village of some 400 residents, located at the entrance to La Mauricie National Park. Its municipal wharf is a peaceful place to take a break, admire the scenery, or even have a picnic.

The village comes alive during major festivals, with cultural and community events organized along the river. The atmosphere is simple, warm, and resolutely authentic.

Pointe-à-la-Mine Rest Area: A Natural Gem

On Route 155, don’t miss the Pointe-à-la-Mine rest area. It’s the perfect place to take a break with a panoramic view of the Saint-Maurice River.

You’ll find picnic tables and restrooms, and the site also serves as the starting point for a short hike to the Petit Point de Vue, a hiking trail that will take you to a second observation point of the river.

La Tuque Déli Restaurant: Homemade Cuisine to Savor

Located in the town of La Tuque, we discovered La Tuque Déli Restaurant, a family-run establishment where home cooking reigns supreme.

The menu features simple yet delicious dishes, such as homemade meatloaf and delicious fish and chips. A terrace, a restaurant area, and a bar area, all with a relaxed atmosphere, make this place an ideal stop for lunch or dinner on the road.

Boston River Falls Park: Nature and Heritage

Located at the entrance to the town of La Tuque, the Petite-Rivière-Bostonnais Falls Park is a natural wonder that will delight outdoor enthusiasts.

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the Nature Interpretation Centre, where more than 50 species of stuffed animals are on display: wolves, coyotes, bears, cougars, and moose—each presented in a carefully recreated environment.

You’ll also discover an impressive collection of minerals, along with information on their origin, purpose, and history.

The tour continues with a walk across a bridge offering spectacular views of the falls and the surrounding mountains. You can also admire an observation tower before descending to the base of the falls, where the roar of the water creates an impressive natural spectacle.

It’s a magical place, perfect for reconnecting with nature and stretching your legs.

Croche River Beach: Relaxation and Tranquility

A little further on, Croche River Beach is an ideal haven for unwinding. This winding river, aptly named, leads to a pristine sandy beach, surrounded by a parking area, picnic tables, and restrooms.

It’s the perfect spot for a refreshing swim or simply a moment of relaxation, surrounded by a soothing natural setting.

Domaine Le Bostonnais: A Forest Stay, Biker Style

Finally, we ended our stay at Domaine Le Bostonnais, a place founded by two motorcycle enthusiasts. Based in a former cabinetmaker’s shop for over 20 years, they have created a true sanctuary for travelers. The estate, featuring log cabins, is surrounded by the Bostonnais River and hiking trails directly accessible on foot.
Each chalet is perfectly equipped and tastefully decorated. Attention to detail is everywhere: comfortable bedding, modern amenities, and a cozy atmosphere.

In the morning, a generous homemade breakfast is served: fluffy pancakes, homemade jams, and gourmet sandwiches.

The welcome is so warm that you instantly feel at home. Spending a night at their estate is an experience in itself!

A Journey Etched in My Memory

What deeply touched me during this trip was the genuine welcome and passion of the owners of each place we visited. Everywhere we went, we were received with kindness and generosity. Each encounter was marked by respect, passion, and a desire to share a corner of paradise with visitors.

Traveling by motorcycle in the La Tuque region isn’t just about following a road: it’s about experiencing a human, natural, and deeply inspiring adventure. One thing is certain: you won’t soon forget it.
