My Review of the Dainese Air Frame D1 Tex: The Perfect Summer Motorcycle Jacket?
I had the chance to receive the Dainese Air Frame D1 Tex jacket as a gift from Kimpex. It’s my first Dainese jacket, and it’s been a great discovery for riders looking for a lightweight, well-ventilated jacket that’s perfectly suited for summer rides.
Here are my thoughts on this model, which stands out for its comfort, breathability, and versatility in warm weather.
Ventilation
There were days when temperatures climbed above 25°C (77°F). From the first few kilometers, I noticed how effective the ventilation was. At highway speeds, air flows generously through the mesh panels, helping me stay comfortable even when the heat starts to build.
On a cooler morning ride, with temperatures around 12°C (54°F), I appreciated the removable windproof liner. Once the sun was out and temperatures started to rise, all I had to do was remove it to enjoy the jacket’s full breathability again.

A Simple and Effective Liner
The liner attaches to the inside of the jacket with snap buttons and a few discreet fasteners. Thin and lightweight, it’s easy to store when it’s not needed. Its main purpose is to block the wind without adding significant warmth.
I found it did a good job of keeping cool air out during chilly mornings and windy days. Since it remains relatively lightweight, it doesn’t feel stuffy or trap excessive moisture while riding.
Style and Fit
When it comes to looks, the Air Frame D1 Tex has a distinctly sporty style while remaining understated enough to suit different types of riders and motorcycles. Its fit is snug without being restrictive, giving it a modern look.
The jacket offers good freedom of movement thanks to its overall flexibility. Unlike some protective jackets that can feel stiff at first, this one was comfortable from the very beginning.
Dainese also offers several colour combinations, depending on the version, making it easy for riders to find a style that suits their personality.

Fabric and Construction
The jacket is made from QuickDry fabric combined with large mesh panels. QuickDry fabric is designed to dry quickly after exposure to moisture or perspiration. In practice, this helps improve comfort on hot days and during long rides by reducing that damp feeling inside the jacket.
Practical Pockets for Everyday Use
The pockets are easy to access when stopped and deep enough to carry essentials such as keys, a wallet, or a phone. The inner pockets also provide extra protection for certain items against the elements.
Although this jacket isn’t designed to carry a large amount of gear, its storage space meets the needs of most riders on a day trip.
Comfortable Adjustments
At high speeds, the jacket’s anti-flap sleeve adjustment system, with snap buttons at the biceps and forearms, helps keep the fabric securely in place. The result is a more stable, comfortable, and enjoyable ride.

The collar, waist, and cuffs are also adjustable, allowing for a personalized fit. The soft neoprene inserts at the cuffs reduce friction and add welcome comfort on longer rides.
Protection
- Removable CE Level 1 composite protectors at the elbows and shoulders provide added confidence on the road.
- A rear pocket accommodates an optional G1 or G2 back protector, sold separately, for riders who want to enhance their level of protection.

My Downsides?
Personally, I prefer soft protectors over more rigid ones. The protectors supplied with the jacket do their job well and inspire confidence, but I would have liked them to conform more closely to the body’s movements. Even so, the jacket’s overall light weight and comfort are undeniable.
Finally, like any highly ventilated jacket, this model performs exceptionally well in warm weather, but its limitations become noticeable when temperatures drop. Fortunately, the windproof liner helps extend its useful season into spring and fall.
These minor drawbacks are more than offset by its many strengths: comfort, excellent ventilation, light weight, and a great fit. For riders who mainly ride during the warmer months, this is an appealing jacket that does its job very well.
Conclusion
With its lightweight construction, effective ventilation, and well-designed adjustments, the Dainese Air Frame D1 Tex is an excellent choice for riders who want to stay comfortable during the warmer riding season without compromising on protection.
Versatile, practical, and comfortable to wear, it’s a great jacket for making the most of every summer ride.
