3 excellent reasons why Lanaudière and Mauricie should be your next snowmobile destination
Have you ever heard of Snowmobile Country? Have you ever visited Snowmobile Country?
Wait! We’re going to give you 3 excellent reasons to put it on your bucket list.
Where is it, what is it?
Snowmobile Country encompasses the Lanaudière and Mauricie regions.
It covers a large area, but is located only about 1 hour from Montreal and 1.5 hours from Quebec City, and remains easily accessible by several major roads, including Highway 40.
The Lanaudière region includes, among others, Saint-Côme, Saint-Donat, and Lac Taureau. Mauricie, meanwhile, offers visits to La Tuque, Trois-Rivières, and Shawinigan.
Together, the regions offer more than 4,000 km of snow-covered trails for snowmobilers.
Lanaudière and Mauricie have a well-established winter reputation: abundant snow and early trail openings in the northern regions.
Snowmobile enthusiasts can therefore enjoy a longer winter season on particularly pleasant trails.
Besides all that, what makes Lanaudière and Mauricie so magical to visit?
A ton of activities await you when you step off your snowmobile.
The regions are beautiful and enjoyable to explore by snowmobile, but that’s not all there is to do! There are many ways to have fun or relax.
Several establishments offer thermal spa treatments, massages, body treatments, and a cozy place to stay. What could be better, the day after a long day of snowmobiling, than relaxing in a warm whirlpool bath while watching the snowflakes gently fall from the sky?
Natur’eau and the Auberge du Lac Taureau offer you a complete spa experience.

At the Pourvoirie du Lac Blanc, we offer a wide range of fascinating activities, from dog sledding to forest expeditions guided by experienced master trappers!
In addition to various spa packages, the Auberge du Lac-à-l’Eau-Claire offers snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating.
Are you a child at heart craving thrills?
Expérience Matha‘s snow tubing will entertain you and your whole family.

For fishing enthusiasts, several locations, such as the Domaine Bazinet Outfitter, offer ice fishing. In Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, you can experience the unique and unmissable experience of fishing for small channel fish.
Cabins, fishing rights, fishing rods, and equipment: everything is included for a perfect day of ice fishing.
So, there’s no reason to be bored, even when the snowmobile is parked!

No matter where you go, you’ll be in for a treat!
Take advantage of your stay in the region to sample local flavors. Many restaurants showcase Lanaudière and Mauricie products to promote Quebec’s terroir.
After a fun day on the trails, why not treat yourself to a fine dining meal in a restaurant offering breathtaking views of the surrounding nature?
Located in Saint-Stanislas-de-Champlain, Microbrasserie Le Presbytère is more than just a microbrewery. Its menu showcases a variety of local forest produce prepared to provide you with an exceptional gastronomic experience.
A boutique located within the microbrewery allows you to discover the local products used in their menu, in addition to offering promotional items and artisanal creations.

The Auberge de la Montagne Coupée and the Auberge du Lac Taureau are two other examples among the dozens of establishments offering gourmet getaways. In some locations, the chef is even happy to prepare your ice fishing catch for your evening meal!
What’s more, all these restaurants are accessible by snowmobile.
You can treat yourself to a gourmet lunch or dinner during your hikes and make your outing an even more complete experience.

Of course, it wouldn’t be called “Snowmobile Country” without unparalleled hiking in the heart of the region.
Several tourist circuits are available to discover the region’s most beautiful trails.
For example, the “L’Escapade” circuit is perfect for those looking for a fun-filled yet leisurely day. It takes 6 to 8 hours to complete and covers 268 km of snowy discoveries. You’ll pass through Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, Lac-à-l’Eau-Claire, follow the Écorces River, and pass dozens of small lakes, magnificent in their winter setting.

For those who prefer a bit more excitement, the “Summit Circuit” promises to be a sight to behold. Nearly 250 km of climbs and descents on perfectly maintained trails offer breathtaking views of the Lanaudière region. The circuit can be completed in 5 to 8 hours, so you can enjoy your evening at one of the region’s spas or gourmet restaurants.

For those who want even more, the “Le Classique du Pays de la motoneige” tour is here to satisfy! The trip takes approximately two days. Snowmobilers are invited to explore 475 km of pure winter bliss. The route features some of Quebec’s most beautiful trails and several must-see stops.

Each of the seven circuits offered by Snowmobile Country lets you discover Lanaudière and Mauricie in its own unique way, and you’re sure to find the perfect itinerary to suit your pace.
It’s got everything you need for an exceptional snowmobile trip.
Local gastronomy, entertainment, comfortable accommodations, and enchanting trails that traverse magical landscapes.
If the three main reasons mentioned above aren’t enough to convince you (which, in our opinion, is almost impossible), the following photos will help you understand why Lanaudière and Mauricie proudly bear the title of Snowmobile Country.
