Who will fall for Yamaha electric bikes?
Good news for the brand and mountain e-bike enthusiasts!
Yamaha Motor Corporation has finally announced the arrival of their electric bikes line up in Canada.
Although it is a novelty in Canada, Yamaha has been producing electric bicycles for more than 30 years already. They are in fact the creators of the electrically assisted bicycles, as we know it today. The first two models launched in Canada are the YDX-MORO 05 and the YDX-MORO 07.
These new models, rooted in tradition, experience and the demands of the world of competition, are specially designed for electric mountain bike enthusiasts. With impressive range, powerful torque, state-of-the-art technology and the smoothest assistance ever experienced on this type of bicycle, sports enthusiasts will be amazed.
The YDX-MORO models also feature Yamaha’s smallest, lightest and most powerful drive units to satisfy enthusiasts of this discipline.
A little bit of history
In 1988, Yamaha launched its first electric bike prototype to counter the difficulties of climbing hills, carrying luggage or fighting against strong winds. It was in 1993 that the company launched the world’s first electric bicycle.
Then came the arrival of the detachable nickel-cadmium battery in 1995.
In 2008, the manufacturer launched their Brace model which was very popular and which will allow the manufacturer to reach the mark of 1 million units of e-Bike in production, followed by the launch of the PW series in 2013. With a record of 3 million in production in April that year, it was in 2015 that Yamaha launched the YPJ-R road bike.
In 2018, the company took an exciting entry into the USA bicycle market and launched their electric mountain bike, the YDX-TORC.
In 2019, the corporation reached 5 million units produced. The launch of the YDX-MORO Pro mountain bike equipped with the PW-X2 is light, powerful and compact and marked the year of 2020. Due to the parts supply problems that the pandemic has created, Yamaha will enter the European market a little late with the arrival of 3 models, including the YDX-MORO 07 in 2022, then will tackle the Canadian market in 2023 with the YDX-MORO 07 and YDX-MORO 05.
“Despite being new to Canada, Yamaha has 30 years of experience building power assist bicycles so these models will have the same level of quality, reliability and durability you expect from every Yamaha, “said Bryan Hudgin, Director of Marketing and Brand Development at Yamaha Motor Canada. “Yamaha’s racing pedigree is also engraved through our e-MTB lineup, with the MORO’s Dual Twin Frame inspired by our championship winning YZ lineup chassis. “
The PW-X3 boasts a maximum torque of 85 Nm while generating a nominal assistance of 250 W, a maximum assistance of 500 W and an electric assistance up to 32 km/h. There are seven different support modes: Eco, standard, high performance, MTB, super powerful, automatic and walking assistance.
Yamaha’s automatic assistance mode definitely selects the perfect level of assistance depending on the riding conditions. In short, whether accelerating, braking or climbing, this mode allows the rider to concentrate on the ride.
When it comes to tackling sandy and muddy terrain as well as the steepest and most challenging slopes, the new drive unit’s higher cutoff offers excellent support to riders.
Moreover, the zero cadence technology ensures an instant torque transfer with every pedal stroke, while the Quad Sensor system has a high and homogeneous power flow that is exclusive to Yamaha. The latter reinforces the perfect harmony between the rider and his bike.
