An emission-free car that does not neglect sporting performance!
BMW made the announcement on July 14 that pre-orders were open for the all-new 2022 BMW i4 by visiting www.BMW.ca. This is BMW’s first all-electric Gran Coupe, also with the performance focus the manufacturer is used to.
In fact, an all-electric BMW 1602e was used at the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics to film the athletes. Several decades later, BMW has perfected its electric mobility.
The interior of the BMW i4 stays true to the luxurious look we’ve come to expect from the company.
The 2022 i4 is equipped with two juxtaposed screens, one behind the steering wheel (12.3 inches) and the other on the center console (14.9 inches).
This curved screen gives the effect of a huge dashboard, very modern. The ergonomic curves allow a better view for the driver.
Harman/Kardon speakers with 205 watts of power are included in the original equipment. However, a 464-watt system is also available.
The 2022 BMW i4 will be available in only two models in Canada
The i4 eDrive
The first model is the i4 eDrive with a single electric motor, coupled with a single-speed transmission since it is solely electric. It will offer a range of 475 km and produce up to 335 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque as well as a rear-wheel drive.
The i4 eDrive goes from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds. The vehicle is also equipped with variable front shocks and a rear air suspension to add comfort and handling. The i4 eDrive also rides on 18- or 19-inch wheels depending on customer preference.
The starting MSRP is $54,999 and is subject to an $8,000 subsidy as this vehicle now falls into the 100% electric vehicle category.
The i4 M50
The second model is the i4 M50, which will have two electric motors with xDrive, offering 536 horsepower doing 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds. However, this model has a slightly lower range of 385 km.
Interestingly for speed enthusiasts, it is possible to temporarily add 67 horsepower and 48 lb-ft of torque with the “Sport Boost” mode available only on the i4 M50.
This vehicle features an adaptive M suspension with anti-roll bars, which can also be added as an option on the eDrive40. This model is equipped with 19-inch wheels, M performance brakes and a mixed tire package. Like the i4 eDrive, the M50 is offered with an 83.9 kWh battery.
MSRP starts at $69,000 and is also subject to an $8,000 electric vehicle subsidy.
Range and charging
On the recharging side, the 2022 i4 can go from 0% to 100% charge with a level 2 terminal, while a fast charge terminal fills the battery from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes. However, BMW claims that it is possible to increase the range by about 145 km with a 200 kW terminal in just 10 minutes.
In addition, the “My BMW” application allows you to locate the various charging station locations across the country. If you prefer to do it at home, you can get all the home charging accessories directly from your BMW dealer.

Sustainable and more environmentally responsible production
The i4 will be produced in Munich, Germany and will be delivered to Canadian retailers in the first trimester of 2022. Interesting fact about production: the BMW i4 is sustainably produced using only green electricity.
The company advocates the use of sustainable materials in the design of their vehicles, such as natural rubber, kenaf and econyl.
Indeed, by 2030, BMW will reduce by 20% the CO2 emissions created by the production of vehicles. In addition, 99% of the waste generated is recycled and reused.
