Ana:From Working in Powersports to Getting Behind the Wheel

A few years ago, I never would have described myself as a “motorsports girl.” Today, powersports are part of both my professional life and the way I like to spend my free time.

I’m originally from Cancún, Mexico, and now live in Montréal, where I work in digital marketing and web experience within the powersports industry.

Because I work in the digital landscape, I see machines every single day: photos, videos, campaigns, product pages, and content of people riding, driving, exploring, laughing, and looking completely exhilarated.

For a long time, that was how I knew the machines: through a screen. I could see the excitement in the content. I understood what we were trying to communicate. But I had not really felt it for myself.

Then I got behind the wheel, and something changed.

Suddenly, I understood those expressions I had seen so many times online. The huge smiles. The adrenaline. The excitement when the machine responds beneath you. That feeling of wanting to go again as soon as you stop.

I remember being genuinely so excited. Something I had looked at professionally every day suddenly became personal. I was no longer just looking at the experience. I understood it.

From the Industry to the Experience

I had already ridden personal watercraft in the past, and growing up in Cancún meant water was always a familiar part of life. But working in powersports made me curious about the wider world around machines.

So I started saying yes to more experiences. Off-roading, ATVs, snowmobiling – I quickly realized I was pretty much always down for an adventure, especially if it meant discovering a new terrain.

There is something completely different about being in the driver’s seat yourself. You notice the terrain. You feel how the machine responds. You become more aware of what you are doing and how much there still is to learn.

That is probably the part I enjoy most. I am very comfortable being a beginner. I would rather ask questions, try something new, and learn through experience than wait until I feel like an expert.

A Woman in the Powersports Industry

Working in this industry has also changed the way I think about representation. Powersports can still feel intimidating from the outside, especially when you do not grow up around machines.

It can seem like everyone already knows the terminology, the equipment, and exactly what they are doing. But the more women I saw working in the industry, riding, driving, testing machines, and sharing their experiences, the more normal it felt to take up space there too.

For me, that matters. Representation does not always need to be loud. Sometimes it is simply seeing another woman behind the wheel and thinking, “Maybe I could try that too.”

Apparently, the Enthusiasm Is Contagious

The more experiences I had, the more I talked about them. Then something funny started happening.

My husband became more interested in joining me for different outdoor and powersports adventures. And after hearing me talk about off-roading enough times, my mom decided she wanted to try it too. Eventually, she was behind the wheel herself.

Seeing her smiling while driving is still one of my favourite memories from those adventures. It was also a reminder that sometimes all it takes is an invitation: “Come try this with me.” That can be enough to turn something unfamiliar into something you end up loving.

Still Learning, Still Saying Yes

Am I an expert? Probably not. But I never really stop saying yes.

I still have a lot to learn, and I think that is exactly what keeps it exciting. I do not need to know everything. I just want to keep getting out there.

Yes to learning. Yes to trying. Yes to getting behind the wheel. Always yes to an adventure.
