Performance is really the key word at Can-Am Off-Road.
For this new year, Can-Am Off-Road has modified almost its entire line.
The improvements? More power, quicker acceleration, and quicker transmission ratio changes.
Side-by-side vehicles
You can’t miss this brand when it comes to power improvements. Indeed, Can-Am Off-Road has bet hard this year with the brand new Rotax Ace 700 single-cylinder engine. This engine offers more power and also more torque, at lower rpm.
Here’s what the new Rotax Ace 700 engine offers:
- Advanced combustion efficiency (ACE) technology
Electronically controlled ITC intelligent throttle
Electronic fuel injection
With the improved engine design, the break-in period and frequent valve adjustments are now a thing of the past! In addition, the first maintenance can be done much later than before.
The driving experience is also improved, as the Rotax Ace 700 engine offers less noise, less vibration, and also less heat for the passengers.
You will find this new power unit on the Defender HD7 with high torque, which will replace the HD5 engine. It offers 37% more power. It will also be on the new Commander 700 and the Maverick Trail 700.
How is this power transmitted?
The Rotax Ace 700 engine propels its power through the best available differential, allowing the selection of the “Turf” mode. This is a first for the Defender, as well as being exclusive to the Commander 700 in its class.
This power is also possible because of the most advanced drive pulley: the new “pDrive”. Torque is transferred through rollers rather than slides, creating a frictionless motion. This makes it the most reliable clutch, the fastest in recovery, and the one that requires the least maintenance.
Other additions…
Beyond performance, there are other new features that make the Defender really interesting. First, the new six-speaker audio roof lets you listen to your favorite music while you get things done.
The hydraulic power tilt bed allows you to unload at the touch of a button.
The Maverick X3
The Maverick X3 is all the strength and technology you need. In fact, the Turbo RR powertrain has been upgraded again this year and is now capable of producing 200hp!
This puts the Maverick X3 at the head of the lineup of side-by-side vehicles in terms of power and performance. In fact, Can-Am Off-Road is the first manufacturer to offer a 200hp side-by-side. Another truly impressive innovation!
In addition to this improvement, the Maverick X3 is designed with the new “pDrive” drive pulley system with roller clutch. This pulley allows for a more dynamic response, faster acceleration and instant power.
The Maverick X3 offers the best power-to-weight ratio in its class.
Handling and agility
New rear lower arms have been added to several models to increase vehicle strength. In addition, new front lower A-arms have been added to all 72-inch models to better handle over bumps.
The suspension and chassis of all 2022 Maverick X3s have been strengthened. A solid side-by-side vehicle with unmatched traction and power.
In an effort to be even better suited for rough terrain, the Smart-Shox adaptive suspension has been added to the Maverick X3.
The Smart-Lok differential is standard on all 2022 Maverick X3s, the best designed off-road front differential. It’s lockable on demand and offers 4 automatic modes for the most traction possible in all conditions.
In addition, new Maxxis Carnivore tires, ranging from 30 to 32 inches, are now available on DS, RS, XDS and XRS models. Truly, the Maverick X3 is not afraid of any obstacle!
Accessories
Finally, several custom-developed enhancements were offered this year to meet the demands of the most demanding drivers. For example, new aluminum doors, more LinQ storage solutions, and my favorite addition…the new Audio Roof !

The ATV
Last year, Can-Am Off-Road launched its brand new Visco-4Lok system. Since it was greatly appreciated by drivers because of the ease of maneuvering and the agility of the vehicles, the Quebec company had no choice but to integrate it into more vehicles.
But what is the Visco-4Lok system?
It’s the first automatic speed-sensing front differential that can be locked manually. This means it can provide unparalleled traction, when you choose to do so.
With the push of a button, you can activate the four-wheel drive locking system. This means that all four wheels share equal power instantly, providing better traction.
This system is now available on the entire X MR range (Outlander and Renegade 2022), in addition to the Outlander XT-P and MAX Limited.
