Snowmobile Trip in Ontario: Kirkland Lake Hot Spots
I had the incredible opportunity to visit the town of Kirkland Lake in Ontario by snowmobile. It is a beautiful town with a population of just under 8,000. Be sure to check out my colleague Josiane’s article to learn more about the history of this wonderful town and our trip there.

A town for snowmobilers
Ontario’s trails total over 2,500 km. The Snowdrifters Golden Corridor alone has over 300 km of groomed trails.
The trails are wide and well-maintained; you won’t be afraid to ride too close to an oncoming snowmobile. The trails have several bridges to cross bodies of water and the views from them are always breathtaking.
The area is surrounded by lakes with clear, easy-to-see signs for a safe crossing.
The Golden Corridor Snodrifters Club’s President, Mike, along with his volunteers, always makes sure to have spectacular and safe trails. The team spends several hours working on them so that you have a memorable experience. You can also check the trails conditions every day on the Golden Corridor Snowdrifters Kirkland Lake & Area Facebook page.
I also strongly recommend that you download the Go Snowmobiling Ontario app where you will find all the establishments in your area and the trail conditions of the entire region. The app also offers the option of creating travel itineraries to make your travels easier.

Kirkland Lake: a central point
Kirkland Lake is the club’s central point since it is the ideal starting point for snowmobile trips.
In addition, the entire city is accessible by snowmobile, so no need for another vehicle for travel! A taxi service is also available if you prefer to let your snowmobiles rest for dinner.
You can go directly to historical sites, stores, restaurants, convenience stores and hotels with your machine! Citizens are very courteous when they come across a snowmobiler driving through the city streets; for them, it is completely normal.

Most restaurants provide a space for people to leave helmets and equipment to dry during a good hot meal. This shows how well received snowmobilers are.
Kirkland Lake’s good eats
We visited The Bridge Restaurant & Bar which is located on the edge of Kenogami Lake, which gives it a magnificent view from the dining room. The menu is very varied and everyone finds something to their liking.
The trail to get to this restaurant opens directly into its parking lot. How convenient! A large trail map is posted in the entrance of the establishment so that you can visualize the rest of your itinerary before leaving.

As I mentioned above, everything is accessible by snowmobile and The Federal Tavern restaurant is no exception. It is located in the city and you can get there with your snowmobile without any problem.
The trail opens a few streets before the restaurant and you only have to drive through town for a few minutes at the wheel of your machine to park directly at the tavern.
The Fed is the ideal place for dinner and a good drink after a long day of traveling kilometers of trails. The pub atmosphere with the fireplace in the corner of the dining room will charm you.

Another place to visit during your stay is definitely The Muddy Moose Restaurant. A large parking lot for snowmobilers is located in front of the restaurant.
Once again, the trail comes out a few blocks further up and you casually drive through the village to get to your destination.
You can’t miss it with its big moose erected in front of the building! It’s a friendly place with a full and varied menu.

During our trip, we had the honour of meeting the Mayor of Kirkland Lake, Mrs. Stacy Wight, a very inspiring woman. She is the first woman to officially hold the position of Mayor in Kirkland Lake.
Kirkland Lake is a mining town, and seeing a woman at the head of it shows us that women are starting to make more and more of their place in unconventional environments. Mrs. Wight is really friendly and approachable and very appreciated by her citizens. People even stop to say hello to her. It was beautiful to see.

Who says travel says accomodation
We stayed at the Kirkland Lake Microtel during our stay, and wow! What a magnificent hotel! The hotel has a spacious parking lot so you can leave your vehicle and its trailer there.
The snowmobile trails start directly from the parking lot.
The employees are welcoming and attentive. The hotel has a large heated indoor pool and even a spa to relax in after a great day exploring the region. You will also find a gym where you can stretch to start your day off right.
And what about the rooms? They are spacious and well designed to have plenty of space.
A continental breakfast is offered every morning. Toast, waffles, cereals, muffins, sausages, juice and coffee are at your disposal.
The Microtel is an eco-responsible hotel, which means that everything is designed to be ecological. It is very honorable of them to be eco-responsible without neglecting the comfort offered to their customers.

This region is a little gold nugget to visit by snowmobile.
There are so many possible itineraries, whether it’s a short ride around the city or several kilometers on the forest trails. I would like to thank Destination Ontario and all the partners who made this dream trip possible.
And a big thank you to Josiane for all her help and the great times we spent together during this trip.
I strongly suggest you to put Kirkland Lake on your list of places to visit by snowmobile, you will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.
