I’ve tested the CKX Montana and Valley kit for you girls.
I have done several kilometers in snowmobile wearing the CKX manufacturer’s two-piece set from the 2019 collection that combines the Montana coat and the Valley overalls. These gears has been designed for an active snowmobiler that requires clothing that adapts to changing temperatures.
CKX stood out last year in the design and visual of their clothing and continues with the 2019 collection. The novelty this year is the snowmobile one-piece suit for women, a popular item for the fans.
I took advantage of a weekend early in the season in Mont-Valin to do a more thorough test. Note that the weather condition was very cold. My review is limited to trail riding.
Montana coat
The CKX Montana coat continues along the same line as last year’s transition collection. The model is available in sizes from very small to 2 x very large. The Montana coat is a 3-in-1 multi-layer concept that allows to adapt to different temperatures. The outer shell provides 60 gram insulation and the liner 120 grams of insulation. The coat is equipped with ventilation zippers if necessary. Several pockets are at our disposal. The YKK Aquaguard brand central zipper is water resistant. The cap is adjustable and detachable.
Valley overalls
The Valley overalls offers 100 grams insulation. CKX categorizes this gear as warm but when using intense efforts. The model is available in sizes from very small to 2 x very large. The overalls have an adjustable waist and also an adjustable shoulder strap system. We find reinforcements in the seat, knees and on the inside of the legs.
My impressions
With temperatures of -15 degrees Celsius and the wind chill factor for temperatures of -30 degrees Celsius are perfect conditions for testing gear!
Heat
My snowmobile is configured for mountain riding so virtually no windshield, therefore no protection against the wind. Point of view heat, for trail riding it would be important to provide good underlays especially in the legs area during long riding distance or during cold weather.
Security
In terms of safety, the other snowmobilers with me appreciated the reflective logos well positioned on the coat and pants for increased visibility.
Measurement
In terms of sizing it’s necessary to downsize (for the overalls) to a size smaller than your usual size in order not to lose the feminine curves. Tall women will be well served with the Valley overalls because it’s made long, but possible to adjust the length with a velcro system.
Flexibility / Comfort
The coat and the overalls are distinguished by its lightness, which allows ease and flexibility during movement. In addition, both pieces are comfortable.
Cons
On a practical side, for the coat the addition of a zipper to attach the removable liner to the outer shell would be interesting. The three anchors seem insufficient and this makes it difficult to remove the coat easily.
Style
On the style side, the coat is trendy as well as the colors. On the other hand, since the pants can be combined with two other coats of different colors, CKX opted for a neutral color, black and gray for the overalls. In my opinion, I find that this has an impact on the overall style.
$/Quality
In terms of price and quality these gear are equivalent to the competition out there. That being said, CKX is a Quebec-based company, so why not encourage them!
Conclusion
This was my first trial with the CKX clothing line.
It is important to note that the design of the two garments tested here were designed for use with intense effort and continuous action. When riding in trails have moved and the effort is sometimes intense but nothing comparable to the off-piste this being said so I can not wait to continue my evaluations in off-track it’s clothing.
Feeling excited to see the CKX 2020 collection.
