Is it possible to be carbon neutral while riding your favorite machine?
At Chicks And Machines, we like to get involved in causes that are close to our hearts and we are always proud to help and encourage those who give back. This is also why we decided to build a partnership with the insurance company BC Assur.
This company immediately won us over with its values so close to ours. It is precisely thanks to them that, this year again, Chicks And Machines is carbon neutral. By the way, we have been proudly since 2021. Of course, our partner BC Assur is too.
But here, I am talking to you about carbon neutrality and you say to yourself: “what is it exactly?”
To offset its greenhouse gas emissions, Chicks And Machines contributes to the Carbone Boréal initiative of the Eco-Consulting Chair of the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (UQAC). A big step to counter global warming!
Carbone boréal is a greenhouse gas (GHG) offset program by planting trees. The initiative allows organizations and individuals to offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from their businesses, organizations, activities, family life, etc. The compensation is calculated from a study done on black spruce in the boreal forest.
In addition to compensating for its own consumption, Chicks And Machines compensates for each of its collaborators in their passion. This is a significant contribution since a snowmobile, for example, releases into the atmosphere about half a ton of carbon dioxide per year (which is equivalent to 2400 km).
The powersports industry is working hard to reduce emissions and improve the fuel efficiency of motor vehicles. It is also embarking on a green shift with, among other things, the emergence of electric vehicles.
However, I believe we all have a responsibility to protect our environment. Actions like this make us think about our consumption and what we can do to become more and more eco-responsible in the practice of our passions.
Of course, carbon neutrality isn’t just about businesses. It is possible to do your part as an individual. If you can’t plant trees, you can change your daily habits, simple little things to reduce your carbon footprint.
What can we do as an individual to be carbon neutral?
- Choose energy-saving light bulbs
- Switch off electrical appliances when not in use
- Consume less
- Use less hot water
- Learn about good recycling practices
- Do some composting
- Don’t let the car engine run for nothing
- Carpooling
- Use environmentally friendly modes of transport when possible
- Eat local foods
- Etc.
A tool is available online on the Carbone Boréal website to help you calculate your consumption and thus determine what your contribution should be to help the environment.
