The long-awaited return of the new 2022 Honda Civic Si
One of the most famous and appreciated sport models will dazzle us once again this year. Knowing that the Civic Si coupe has not been offered since the 80’s, it will make a comeback and will be proudly made in Canada.
Whether you’re a fan or not, the Civic Si has a lot of appeal to everyone. One of the few vehicles that offers the perfect blend of family sedan and adrenaline and excitement is back with a bang.
However, the manufacturer has remained true to the original engine, but with several interesting additions, including its structure and suspension.
The Civic Si has achieved iconic status because it continues to deliver exhilarating performance at an affordable price.
The latest Si brings us these features as well as a standard manual transmission that makes it even more exciting to drive. It’s clearly the best and most dynamic Si we’ve ever produced, and it’s made right here in Canada.
Steve Hui, assistant vice president, Honda Canada.

Back to the engine roots
While Honda is targeting young drivers looking for a sporty and exciting ride, old-timers will find their youthful vehicle in this new chassis. The 1.5-litre VTEC turbocharged 4-cylinder engine still delivers a rich and engaging ride.
Developing 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque from 1,800 to 5,000 rpm, it now reaches 300 rpm for an even faster ride.
Efficiency has also been improved as the engine can maintain a higher power output while offering a maximum speed of 6,500 rpm at the top of the tachometer.
This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with a 10% shorter shift time and includes the same synchronization system offered in the Type-R and a limited-slip differential.
What’s new for the 2022 Honda Civic Si
Here are some of the new features that will be offered in the new 2022 Civic Si:
- The suspension has been retuned to provide a better ride and handling of the vehicle.
- A 60% stiffer torsion bar for more direct response.
- A new individual driving mode for greater driver satisfaction.
- Bright pearlescent orange is available and exclusive to the Civic Si
- Driver-focused interior with sport seats featuring red accents and contrasts

Superior handling and stability
The new body is stiffer than before and has been increased by 8 percent and 13 percent in bending strength compared to the previous Si.
Like the 2022 Civic Sedan, it has a 12 mm wider rear track and a 35 mm longer wheelbase for a more stable and comfortable ride even at high speeds or in curves.
The suspension has also been improved by having 8% more stiffness at the front and 54% more stiffness at the rear than the Civic Sedan. This helps the vehicle remain stable in straight line or on curves.
The upper front struts have been strengthened to allow for safer tight cornering. Stabilizer bars are 27 mm thicker in the front and 18 mm thicker in the rear compared to the Civic Sedan to help minimize roll.
Also originally from the Civic Type R, 83% stiffer front adaptive pads than the sedan have been added to the 2022 Civic Si. As are the rear pads, which are also stiffer, and the upper B-arms.
A 60% stiffer torsion bar connecting the steering shaft to the rack and pinion gear provides a more responsive steering feel.
The Si’s new Individual Drive Mode allows the driver to choose engine response and steering force to provide a personalized driving experience for each driver.
Not to mention the sport mode that increases throttle response, significantly reduces steering assist, cancels the idle stop system and allows the driver to choose the rev-matching on or off. To add a little sporty flair, it changes the backlighting from white to red.
